The Night I Became Miss Fresher 🏆 and NEPA Took the Light in Crawford University

Hey my name is INEM, and before I ever stepped into Crawford University, I already had one dream. 💕

I wanted to win something that made people know my name.

I used to watch American high school movies where they crowned homecoming queens.
I asked my brother if we had something like that in Nigeria.

He laughed and said, No homecoming queen here o, but in some schools they do Mr and Miss Fresher.

From that day, something sparked in me.

The Beginning of the Journey 💐

When I got to Crawford, I saw how things worked.
I was still 100 level, but in my head, I already said, I will be one of them. They will call my name.

So the day I got nominated, I almost screamed.
I ran to call my family and friends. I was happy but also scared, because now it was real.

People started saying congratulations.
But I knew it was just nomination.
Winning was another thing.

Awareness Mode Activated 💄🎀

I started making people know me.
I dressed well, talked to people, greeted seniors, smiled at strangers, helped my classmates, attended events and made friends.

Inside me, I kept saying, “Inem, you must collect this award.”

The Night Everything Happened 📸

The hall was full.
Lights, music, perfumes, noise, heels.
Everyone was waiting for them to announce the winners.

Then suddenly, NEPA took the light.

The whole hall went dark.

For two seconds, nobody moved.
Then people started laughing and shouting.

Someone turned on their phone torch.
Then another.
Then another.
Within seconds, the whole hall was filled with hundreds of shining phone lights.

It was so beautiful.
Like stars.

People were cheering.
Calling names.
Clapping.
My heart was beating so fast I could hear it.

Then They Called My Name 👑

Miss Fresher 2023 is… Inem Amos.

I froze.

Then I walked forward slowly.
Phone lights followed me.
People screamed.
Some stood up.
My friends were crying and smiling.

The moment I held that award, I knew; dreams are real.

What I Learned 💡🌸

If you want something, go for it.

Do not wait for perfect conditions.
Even if the light goes off, keep shining.

The road may be narrow.
Still walk.

People may not believe in you at first.
Believe in yourself.

No matter how slim the road might be, go for it.

Even if your voice shakes.
Even if people laugh.
Even if you are scared.

Because one day, they will turn on their phone lights and call your name too. 🤎
